Boomhall Trust is a Charitable Trust dedicated to the purpose of conserving and restoring the estate of Boomhall for public benefit.
The History
Boomhall Estate is a place where 300 year-old oak trees overlook the historic site of the ‘Boom’. In 1689 King James II built a floating boom across the River Foyle to block supply ships from entering the City. Three months later the boom was broken by King William III to lift the Siege of Derry and redirect the course of European history.
The Challenge
To protect, restore and enhance the rich heritage of Boomhall of Boomhall Estate and Walled Gardens to its former glory for the benefit of this generation and those to come.
The Vision
To develop the site into an accessible and shared public space.
The Place
Boomhall is a three-storey country house built by James and Robert Alexander around 1779. The 60 acre grounds contain a walled garden; stables and courtyard; historic battlefield landscape with
a unique eighteenth century layout; and ancient woodland with its own little world of protected habitats and species, ecosystems,
flora and fauna.
